PAINT REMOVED SAFELY

THE PROCESS

What Is Paint CORRECTION?

Paint correction is the process of mechanically removing defects from your vehicle's clear coat using machine polishers, cutting compounds, and polishing pads. It is the only true way to eliminate swirl marks, scratches, water spots, and oxidation, not hide them.

Every vehicle has a clear coat, a transparent layer of paint applied over the color coat that gives the paint its depth and gloss. Over time, improper washing, environmental exposure, and everyday use create micro-abrasions in this clear coat that scatter light and dull the finish.

Paint correction removes a microscopic amount of this clear coat, measured in microns to level the surface and restore optical clarity. Done correctly by a trained technician, paint correction is completely safe and dramatically transforms the appearance of any vehicle.

It is also the essential first step before any ceramic coating or PPF application because any product applied over defects will lock them in permanently.

Swirl Marks

Fine circular scratches caused by improper washing, dry wiping, or automatic brush car washes. Visible as a spider-web pattern in direct light.

LIGHT Scratches

Surface-level scratches in the clear coat from keys, branches, rings, or abrasive materials. Can be fully removed if they haven't penetrated to the color coat.

Water Spots

Mineral deposits left behind when water evaporates on a hot surface. If left long enough, they etch into the clear coat and require correction to remove.

Oxidation & Fading

UV-induced degradation that causes paint to look dull, chalky, or hazy. Common on older vehicles or those without protection. Correction restores the vivid color beneath.

· Buffer Trails / Holograms

Pattern left in paint from improper machine polishing. A sign of amateur work — corrected with the right pad and compound combination.

Important: Paint Correction Cannot Fix Everything

Correction works within the clear coat layer. Deep scratches that have reached the color coat or primer, rock chips, and dents cannot be removed by polishing. During your consultation, our technicians inspect every panel under professional lighting to give you an honest assessment of what's achievable before any work begins.

CORRECTION STAGES

Enhancement Detail

Single Stage · 30–50% Correction

A single polish pass that enhances gloss and removes light surface defects. Ideal for newer vehicles or those in good condition needing a refresh before coating.

  • 1-step machine polish

  • Light swirl removal

  • Gloss enhancement

  • Paint decontamination

  • Ideal pre-coating prep

WHAT WE CORRECT

PAINT DEFECTS EXPLAINED

01

Swirl Marks

Cause: Improper Washing

The most common paint defect. Circular micro-scratches scattered across the clear coat that appear as a spider-web pattern under direct light. Almost every vehicle has them.

✦ Correctable in all stages

02

Clear Coat Scratches

Cause: Abrasive Contact

Scratches that remain within the clear coat layer from keys, rings, branches, or abrasive materials. Fully removable if they haven't reached the color coat below.

✦ Correctable in stage 2–3

03

Water Spots

Cause: Mineral Deposits

Mineral-rich water drying on a hot surface leaves calcium deposits that bond to or etch into the clear coat. Light spots polish out easily; etched spots require more aggressive correction.

✦ Correctable in stage 1–3

04

Oxidation

Cause: UV Exposure

Prolonged UV exposure breaks down the clear coat and dulls the color beneath, leaving the paint looking chalky, hazy, or faded. Correction removes the degraded layer and restores color depth.

✦ Correctable in stage 2–3

05

Holograms / Buffer Trails

Cause: Improper Polishing

Circular or linear patterns left in the paint from incorrect machine polishing technique. A telltale sign of amateur detailing, corrected with proper pad and compound selection.

✦ Correctable in all stages

06

Bird Dropping Etching

Cause: Acidic Waste

Bird droppings are highly acidic and etch into clear coat within hours in warm weather. The longer they sit, the deeper the damage. Early-stage etching is fully correctable.

✦ Correctable in stage 2–3

HOW IT WORKS

OUR CORRECTION PROCESS

01

Paint Inspection

Every panel is inspected under LED and halogen lighting to map all defects and measure paint depth with a paint thickness gauge.

02

Decontamination

Full chemical wash, iron decontamination spray, and clay bar treatment to remove all bonded surface contamination before polishing begins.

03

Machine Polishing

Each panel is polished section by section using the correct pad and compound combination for its defect level — never a one-size-fits-all approach.

04

IPA Wipe Down

All polish oils and residue are removed with an isopropyl alcohol wipe to reveal the true corrected finish and prepare for protection.

05

Final Inspection

Every panel is re-inspected under lighting before the vehicle is returned. We document results with before/after photos at every stage.

WHY IT MATTERS

REASON TO CORRECT NOW

01

Required Before Coating

Ceramic coating and PPF permanently lock in whatever condition the paint is in. Applying protection over defects preserves them, paint correction must come first.

02

Defects Get Worse Over Time

Swirl marks, water spots, and oxidation don't stay the same, they deepen with every wash and exposure cycle. Correcting early costs less than correcting later.

03

Dramatically Improves Resale

Clean, defect-free paint is one of the first things buyers notice and appraisers assess. A corrected vehicle commands significantly higher trade-in and private sale values.

04

Cheaper Than Repainting

A professional respray of a single panel costs more than a full paint correction. If defects are still within the clear coat, correction delivers better results at a fraction of the cost.

05

Restores Factory Depth

Nothing transforms a vehicle's appearance like paint correction. Colors that looked faded become vivid again. Dark cars that looked gray in sunlight become mirror-reflective.

06

Safe In Expert Hands

Our technicians use paint thickness gauges on every panel throughout the correction process ensuring we remove defects safely without compromising your clear coat.

Common Questions
Paint Correction FAQ
Will paint correction remove all scratches?
+
Paint correction removes defects that are within the clear coat layer. Scratches that have penetrated through to the color coat or primer cannot be polished out — they require touch-up paint or a respray. We assess every panel during your consultation and give you an honest picture of exactly what is achievable before any work begins.
Is paint correction safe for my car?
+
Yes — in expert hands. We measure paint thickness on every panel before and during the correction process using a digital paint gauge. This ensures we never remove more clear coat than is safe. We work panel by panel, adjusting our approach based on each surface's individual condition and thickness readings.
How long does paint correction take?
+
A single-stage enhancement takes 1 day. A two-stage correction typically takes 1–2 days. A full multi-stage correction on a larger or heavily defected vehicle can take 2–3 days. We never rush the process — each panel receives the time and attention it needs to achieve the best possible result.
Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?
+
Yes — always. Ceramic coating creates a permanent bond to your paint and will lock in any defects present at the time of application. Swirl marks, water spots, and scratches coated over will be visible under the coating and impossible to remove without stripping it. We always perform at minimum a single-stage enhancement before any coating service.
How do I maintain my paint after correction?
+
After correction, we strongly recommend protecting the paint with ceramic coating or PPF to preserve the results long-term. Without protection, the same environmental factors that caused the original defects will gradually create new ones. Proper two-bucket hand washing technique and avoiding automatic brush car washes are also essential habits.
